Large Intestine Cancer

Colon cancer is the third leading type of cancer in males and the fourth in females. Risk factors for cancer of the colon and rectum (colorectal cancer) include colon polyps, long-standing ulcerative colitis, and genetic family history. Most colorectal cancers develop from polyps.

SYMPTOMS

  • Pain areas: in the abdomen
  • Gastrointestinal: blood in stool, change in bowel habits, constipation, narrow stools, or passing excessive amounts of gas
  • Whole body: anaemia or fatigue
  • Also common: abdominal discomfort or weight loss

CAUSES

Abdominal pain.
Unexplained weight loss.
Weakness or fatigue (sometimes a result of anemia)
Bloody or tarry stools (from bleeding tumors)
A noticeable lump in the abdomen.
