Ulcerative Proctitis

Ulcerative proctitis:ulcerative colitis that is limited to the rectum. Ulcerative Colitis itself is a relatively common disease involving inflammation of the large intestine (the colon). The cause is unknown. It is a form of inflammatory bowel disease and has some similarity to a related disorder, crohn's disease.

SYMPTOMS

  • Symptoms include rectal bleeding, bloody diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and pain. Pain areas: in the joints or rectum
  • Pain types: can be intermittent in the abdomen
  • Gastrointestinal: bloating, blood in stool, diarrhoea, inability to empty bowels, leaking of stool, or urgent need to defecate
  • Whole body: anaemia, fatigue, fever, or loss of appetite
  • Abdominal: cramping or tenderness
  • Also common: weight loss

CAUSES

  • Sexually transmitted infections (stis)
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (ibd), such as crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
  • Anal trauma, such as from vigorous anal sex.
  • Infections that aren't sexually transmitted, such as infections from bacteria like salmonella and shigella.
